Information on the Online Interactive Seminar
March 4 – 22, 2002

The Catholic Distance University and the Office of Catechetics of the Diocese of Arlington will sponsor an Online Interactive Seminar, "Catechesis for the New Millennium: The Pasion and Resurrection of Our Lord" that will begin Monday, March 4, 2002 and conclude Friday, March 22, 2002.

The seminar has been designed for CCD teachers in the Diocese of Arlington as well as CCD teachers from other dioceses and parishes.  In addition, it would be excellent for Catholic schoolteachers and for RCIA teams and staff, as well as any Catholic adult who desires to learn more about sacramental theology and the Paschal Mystery and a deeper theological understanding of the liturgical season of Lent.

Seminar Content
 Father. Christopher M. Buckner, The Undergraduate Dean of CDU and Sister Mary Margaret Ann Schlather, SND, CDU Faculty, will collaborate to offer the three-week seminar on the following topics:

Week One:  Mount of Olives--MountSion: The Passion of Our Lord                 (Father Buckner)

Week Two: Mount Calvary: The Death and Resurrection of Our Lord  (Father Buckner)

Week Three: How to Teach the Pascal Mystery (Sister Mary Margaret Ann, SND)

Seminar Costs
The cost of the seminar for CCD teachers in the Diocese of Arlington is $50Checks for tuition should be made payable to " Catholic Diocese of Arlington" and sent to the Office of Catechetics, The Diocese of Arlington, 200 North Glebe Road, Suite 503, Arlington, VA  22203.

Tuition for all other registrants is $85.  Checks in this instance should be made payable to "Catholic Distance University" and should be sent directly to CDU, 120 E. Colonial Highway, Hamilton, VA  20158.  A credit card can be used by calling CDU toll-free 1-888-254-4CDU.

Registration for the Seminar
Registration will be done online between February 18-Februrary 28, 2002.  Please go to the CDU website (www.cdu.edu) and click on the link to register for the Online Interactive Seminar and follow the directions.   Usernames and passwords will be issued via email during the weekend preceding the start date of March 4, 2002.  Usernames and passwords will not be issued until the online registration has been completed and the appropriate tuition paid in full. 

Participant Requirements
Requirements for the seminar include logging on to the Conference Site at least once a week to read the keynote address for the week, responding online to the reflection question and submitting a one-page reflection paper at the end of the three weeks.  The minimum time required to successfully complete the seminar is three hours per week for three weeks and one hour for the reflection paper. 

When the seminar is completed, CCD teachers in the Diocese of Arlington will be awarded 10 hours toward preliminary certification in the areas of theology, catechetics, and technology.  If you already have preliminary certification, the ten hours will count toward the next level of certification.  All other participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from The Catholic Distance University that includes 10 clock hours and 1 CEU.  The certificate can be taken to your diocese for appropriate application toward certification.
